We're always on the lookout for great FileMaker talent in our region, and from time to time we take on new talent and will teach you FileMaker from the ground up. We're not activily hiring right now, but will review any applicantions and consider possibilities...
How would you like to step into a role where you can really make a difference to people’s everyday work lives? It’s coding, and UI design, and business analysis and user support all rolled into one. It’s problem solving and creating solutions. It’s very rewarding.
We develop business solutions — apps for the desktop, iOS and the web browser — using a low-code platform called FileMaker by Claris (a subsidary of Apple). The point of low-code platforms is to help you get stuff done, quickly and robustly. And that is a key business proposition that Digital Fusion is based upon.
You don’t need to know FileMaker to come join us in this mission, but you do need to have a mix of technical skills, people skills and business understanding. You’ll be involved in projects from design through development, deployment and ongoing support and continuous improvements over many years. Each project and client is different.
So what sort of skills are we looking for?
You will need to know some coding — you need a “coders mind”, but we don’t mind what programming languages you know already because we’ll teach you FileMaker and our methods and standards.
You’ll need to understand relational database structures and ideally some SQL. Ideally you should understand APIs, and JSON and possibly some JavaScript or HTML.
But for all that technical background, great FileMaker developers are equally strong in:
User interface design and layout — an eye for what looks good, but mostly an understanding for UI fundamentals, workflow and what makes a truly enjoyable user experience. People use the software we create for them all day, every day. It needs to be nice, and it needs to be efficient.
Communication skills — both the ability to listen, enquire and ask, and the ability to explain and update and inform… sometimes under pressure!
Analysis and Design — in this role you will often operate with a high degree of autonomy and have a direct relationship with your clients, so you will need to work with them to discover needs and requirements. Then, building upon that understanding, design a solution, including the database structures, integrations, user workflows and user interfaces.
If you’re interested in this life changing opportunity, write to us and tells about yourself and why you think this might be the best career for you in IT.
While we do offer some work from home opportunities you must live in New Zealand now and have excellent spoken and written English. Applications must include a cover letter and should be sent to: jobs@teamdf.com
