FileMaker 14

By Stuart Woodhouse, 13 May 2015

We are pleased to announce that FileMaker have today released version 14 of their software for desktop and iOS.

We are all incredibly excited by this release. It brings some new features that the developers have wanted/needed and we can see areas where we can further enhance your solutions. FileMaker WebDirect and FileMaker Go make some big leaps forward and both products are starting to ‘mature’ really nicely.

For all the good stuff in it this is a major change so we recommend you don’t upgrade just yet.

As there are a number of system requirements that surround the upgrade, we believe it is best to wait and we will give you some more details in the next week or so.

In terms of showing off some of the new features, our own Daniel Wood has written 14 blog posts that will be released over the coming weeks. These get into the real specifics around FileMaker 14 features, so if you have a technical bent, it would pay to regularly check back on Daniels blog at http://www.weetbicks.com

For those who want an idea of what to expect, here’s a bit on each of the different FileMaker 14 platforms:

FileMaker Pro
The flagship desktop product has a raft of new design and user interface tools that makes it easier than ever to create even more beautiful solutions.

FileMaker WebDirect
FileMaker’s WebDirect technology for web based deployment has been vastly improved in terms of performance and support. It now supports mobile browsers on tablet devices such as the iPad and Samsung Galaxy, and other Android based tablets. FileMaker have invested a lot in this method of deployment so you should check it out and see whether it is right for you.

FileMaker Go for iOS
FileMaker Go has a number of great user interface and performance improvements. These new features such as improved touch controls and gestures will make databases feel even more like native iOS applications than ever before. Combine that with a number of user interface and usability improvements and the future looks bright for mobile deployments.

FileMaker Server
FileMaker Server has had a security overhaul and it is now more secure than ever to host your solutions with FileMaker Server to keep your data safe and secure. If 100% uptime of your solutions is important to you then you’ll love FileMaker Servers new failover server feature that will allow you to switch to a backup standby server (with a little help from IT support!).

As always we are here to support you with all things FileMaker so if you do have questions or need our assistance do get in touch.
