When you next see an ad on TV, it will have got the big tick from the Commercial Approvals Bureau. This is an industry self-regulated organisation that manages the approval of all television ads based on a wide criteria set down in the industry code.

For the last ten years Digital Fusion have worked with Commercial Advertisement Bureau to develop, maintain and add to their solution. In the case of the original development, FileMaker was the natural fit for four main reasons:

  • Robust and reliable
  • Scaleable
  • Rapid development
  • Ease of maintenance and modification

The Advertisement Database forms the focal part of the solution where each advertisement is entered and tracked as it is approved or rejected.

Some of the key features of the database are:

  • Invoicing information seamlessly flows from FileMaker to Xero using the Digital Fusion developed plugin
  • Publishing the commercial classifications to the web is preformed using Digital Fusions TCP plugin to update an external SQL table
  • The database also manages web logins and access privileges. For example an agency can only search for their own classifications, but a broadcaster can search the entire database.

Through the years we have made refinements that have helped both in term of the ease of use but also the integrity of data.To have a solution last and evolve over 10 years is quite an achievement. As you can see from the screen shots below, it’s not a bad looking solution, testament to the ongoing commitment to improve.
